Volunteers and Interns

Fall 2004

(I) About CRTD.A

CRTD.A is a Lebanese NGO based in Beirut/Lebanon and dedicated to social development and gender equality in Lebanon and the Machreq/Magreb region.  Through CRTD.A projegrammes and activities, we provide a platform for research, debate, analysis, training, capacity building and institutional development on issues of social development, women and gender in Lebanon and the Machreq/Maghreb.  Our aim is to strengthen regional solidarity and collaboration for the purpose of achieving sustainable development and gender equality in the Arab region. 

To support its work and that of its partners in Lebanon and the region, CRTD.A is seeking

1)  Dynamic interns to undertake innovative work in the area of social and community development, gender and development and institutional building of NGOs in Lebanon and the Machreq/Maghreb region.

2) Committed and dynamic volunteers to contribute to various areas of CRTD.A’s work and institutional support in Lebanon.

(II) Purpose of internship and volunteer opening

 The CRTD.A short-term volunteer and intern placements aim at providing young women and men with the opportunity for learning, exchange, capacity building and hands-on experience on social development and gender and development.  Volunteer and intern positions are not paid positions.  Candidates are provided with systematic induction and coaching as they are assigned a mentor throughout the duration of the internship.

(III) CRTD.A Placements for interns

The CRTD.A interns are expected to be able to contribute to CRTD.A’s current programmes (see below, section V), through the following skills and expertise:

  1. Training and facilitation
  2. Analytical skills
  3. Action oriented research
  4. Desk research and secondary research
  5. Content editing
  6. Programme development and resources mobilisation

Applications for internship are encouraged in the case of students, individual with academic background and interests and with specific interest in the Machreq/Maghreb region.

 CRTD.A interns will be based in Beirut but with frequent exposure to projects and local communities.

(IV) CRTD.A Placements for volunteers (general interests and competencies)

The CRTD.A volunteers placement opportunity is sought in the following areas:

  1. General administration
  2. ICT training and support
  3. Language teaching
  4. Documentation
  5. Database management
  6. Organisational development

CRTD.A volunteers may be involved either in desk work or could be deployed to project sites and local communities.

(V) CRTD.A Current Programmes

 Depending on the strengths and areas of interests of volunteers and interns, areas of placement may be in either of the following CRTD.A programmes and interventions:

CRTD.A IRIS (www.iris-lebanon.org)

The CRTD.A IRIS programme comprises the Lebanon based initiatives, projects and programmes and include the following:

  1. The Lebanon Development Gateway
  2. The Women Economic Empowerment Project
  3. The NGOs Capacity Building Programme
  4. The youth, gender and leadership programme

 CRTD.A MACMAG-GLIP (www.macmag-glip.org)

The CRTD.A MACMAG-GLIP programme comprises the regional initiatives and projects and includes the following:

  1. The gender and citizenship programme
  2. The gender, economy and trade programme

Paralell to that, CRTD.A maintains a regional gender mainstreaming and gender capacity building programme.

(VI) Key Competencies Of Successful Volunteers and Interns  Applicants

Succesful applicants to the CRTD.A internship and/or volunteers programme will have the following key characteristics:

  • Computer literate
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Good communication and inter-personal skills
  • University level education
  • Commitment to gender equality and social justice
  • Interest and ability to work in a intercultural / international setting
  • Initiative, creativity and innovative ideas for development, gender equality and social change
  • Fluency in one or more of the following languages: English, French or Arabic

(VII) How to Apply
