Syrian Women League
The Syrian Women League, established in 1948, is a democratic women's organization, a contributing member in Women's International Democratic Federation (WIDF) and a member in the Women Permanent Arab Court to Resist Violence Against Women. The League's headquarter is in Damascus City, with branch offices across govern orates, ensuring even spread of the League's objectives and purposes.
The Syrian Women League's objectives and goals include:
- To spread awareness and enhance knowledge on women's issues, and equality
among women and within society
- To render the issue of women a matter of public concern on a broader social scope, and propose amendments that ensure complete equality in rights between men and women
- To advocate for the ratification of the CEDAW convention without reservation
- To introduce modifications and develop civil status code/law to conform to the principle of equality in rights between men and women
- To contribute to Arab campaigns to resist violence against women
- To advocate the integration and the mainstreaming of gender in public policies
- To promote the gender concept within Syrian society
- To work on improving women's image in the media
- To highlight all forms of violence against women at the domestic, social, legal, physical and psychological levels.
